About Me
Ayah Abushama (she/her/hers)
I am a recent graduate from UC Berkeley, with Bachelor's degrees in Computer Science and Cognitive Science. I am particularly interested in backend development, as well as AI/ML, Natural Language Processing, cybersecurity, and privacy. My favorite languages are C, Java, Python, and SQL, but am also skilled in machine code (such as RISC-V and X86).
I am lucky enough to have been chosen for the Fiat Lux Scholarship, a four-year full scholarship, that allows me the time to study two disciplines. This niche within the world of tech gives me the opportunity to explore my passions within the humanities, the biological & psychological worlds while being able to put those concepts and make them a reality through technology and algorithms.
Outside of academics, I spent much of my time helping in beginning inclusive spaces within engineering, as well as making Cal's campus open & welcoming to all students. I also have taken a liking to teaching — both as a facilitator of a student-taught course and as a Computer Science tutor. I try my best to keep ensure I take advantage of all that a campus like Cal has to offer while giving it all I have in return.
In my free time, you'll find me reading, trying out a different styles of embroidery, knitting, cooking, gardening, and spending time with friends and family. I essentially have the same list of hobbies as most grandmothers.
